Two stand saddled and it seems an easy matter to get them, but as the Indian is about to be off, Ned West fires. This startles Big Bear, who loses no time in getting away. When the soldiers inquire regarding the noise, Ned laughingly tells them of the incident and they all think it a joke. He rides off with both horses to keep his rendezvous with his sweetheart, who is the daughter of Major Gregory. The Major hears of the attempted horse thieving with anger and says he will see to it. Mrs. Gregory asks that Ned take good care of Annette, and away they go. Big Bear goes from the barracks to his tribe and they go with him to find Ned. They come upon the happy lovers who are taken unawares. Ned is knocked unconscious, while Annette whips up her horse and dashes off. The Indians go in pursuit of her. When Ned comes to, he mounts and makes haste to the barracks. Luckily the Major and his soldiers are ready to accompany Ned without loss of time. Annette, meantime, has been doing some hard riding with the Indians steadily gaining, and Big Bear eventually reaches her and takes her off at a furious pace, while the balance of the redmen turn to meet the soldiers. Ned, however, succeeds in getting by them and catches up to Big Bear and his captive. He saves himself from another blow from Big Bear by shooting him.
