He falls in love with Nell, the pretty daughter of his boss, and his admiration is returned. Nell is devotedly attached to her brother Jim, a wild reckless youth who had left the ranch in anger, vowing never to return. She has done all in her power to effect a reconciliation between the father and brother, but to no avail. She receives a letter from Jim, stating that he must have five hundred dollars before the 25th of the month, or he will be arrested. Nell is half crazed by the news. It is now only a few days left before the 25th, but no way in which to get the required amount has presented itself. Her brother must not go to jail. Nell is desperate. Austin prepares to drive to town to bank money derived from the sale of cattle. A desperate plan forms in Nell's mind. She fights against it, but love for Jim conquers her. She will do it for his sake. Nell changes her dress for a cowboy's suit. She makes a mask from an old felt hat and drives across the plains to wait for her father. When he arrives, he hears the command, "Hold up your hands!" Nell relieves him of his cash. She rides off in the opposite direction, and meets Jack, Who is surprised at her attire, asks her what is the matter. Nell then shows him Jim's letter. They exchange horses and Jack takes the chaps which she has been wearing and leaves her in English trousers. Jack rides back past the scene of the hold-up, and is met by Austin, who commands him to hold up his hands. Jack escapes while Austin forms a posse of cowboys, who ride out after him. They finally wound him and bring him back. Nell, overwhelmed with grief, explains that she was the thief. She shows Jim's letter to her father, who, finally won over by Nell's pleadings, forgives Jim and helps him. Jack wins the love of this noblest girt and is later on married. Written by
