The old gentleman is adamant to the young lovers' appeals and imposes his interference on every occasion that they get together. McGillicuddy is seized with a gout attack that handicaps him, and Jack seizes the opportunity. Dolly tells Jack to meet her at Mabel Wright's; he agrees and they are married. Mabel Wright and Charley Fortune, inspired by the example of Jack and Dolly, decide to get married themselves. Old Mr. McGillicuddy becomes suspicious and puts a detective on his daughter's track to prevent the consummation of Dolly's plans. The detective takes the scent, and through a false clue gets on the tack of Mabel and Charley, whom he arrests with a great show of bravado and importance. He brings them before Mr. and Mrs. McGillicuddy, who are almost paralyzed with astonishment when they realize the sleuth's mistake, and that he has been foiled. The climax of this comedy of errors and love's victory is the appearances of Dolly and Jack upon the scene, firmly locked in the bonds of matrimony, which McGillicuddy cannot tear asunder. He accepts the situation gracefully by embracing his daughter and blessing the young couple. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
