She has sworn to "get" the man who betrayed her sister. When the mine workers threaten to kill the foreman because he has withheld their pay, "Lightning" persuades them to be calm, but she is the first to set out after the crooked foreman when he tries to escape, after promising her he would pay off the boys. In his mad dash for freedom, the foreman is killed. He proves to be the man who deserted her sister and so "Lightning's" mission is filled and she is free to marry Bud, her handsome suitor.
