His home life was bad enough before but after the mother arrived it is an inferno. To get a moment's respite from persecution, Ike dopes the coffee with a sleeping potion. When his wife and mother-in-law are deep in the land of dreams, he drags mother-in-law to a haystack and covers her with hay. He is spied on by some of the villagers and the report spreads that he has murdered his mother-in-law. The populace rises in a body and sets out to lynch the henpecked husband, and murder would actually have been committed had the drug's effect not worn off and the wife and her mother awakened.
