Milburn, the squire's son, causes his father much uneasiness because of his familiarity with one of the girls at the Gaiety Theatre, and when the old man sees a notice in the paper stating the engagement of Milburn Binks and Lillie, the Gaiety girl, the squire determines to put a stop to his son's "dream of love." Mrs. Binks sympathizes with her son. The company that is playing at the theater is having a hard time to make ends meet. One of the creditors calls on the manager, and unable to get payment, leaves in a rage, vowing to get even. Milburn is enjoying a nice little visit with his fiancée and is given a couple of passes by the manager. He persuades his mother to accompany him to the show and the two leave for the theater. The collector calls on Squire, tells his troubles and demands that the sheriff levy on the goods of the show people. The Squire, glad of a change to get back at "them theater peepul," who he believes have ruined his son, agrees to close the theater or collect the bill. He and the collector start out for the show. Meanwhile at the theater, there is a very small crowd. Ma and Milburn arrive and ensconce themselves in the very first row. Hardly had the show started when Squire comes in, breaks up the show and takes charge of all personal property. Ma, angry because she missed the show, gets the girls together and promises them financial assistance. With Ma's help the girls open a barber shop and it is all the manager can do to keep the crowd from bursting in the doors. They do a brisk business and finally the Squire investigates the matter. When he sees the pretty girl barbers, he determines to get a shave too. Lillie is the barber most in demand and Pa Binks ousts the occupant of her chair and takes it himself. Milburn is nearby and hides, while Lillie proceeds to give the old man the shave of his life. The Squire flirts with the girls, and Lillie phones Ma, telling of her husband's actions. Ma hastens to the scene and exchanges places with Lillian unknown to father. Father, thinking the girl is shaving him, is very flattering until he gets a good look at his barber. Then he heats a retreat, but Ma is too quick for him and corners him. Among the attractions of the barber shop is "the steam room," and Pa, in his desperation, gets into this room. The door is closed and Pa is given the "sweat cure." He begs to get out, but Ma insists he will stay inside until he marries Milburn and the girl. Pa finally consents and the ceremony is performed through a panel of the door. When Pa is liberated he is "soaked" a bath fee by the manager for having been in the bath room.
