The guests include colonel Stoyanov, relatives and friends. The colonel is telling a story from the war. In Macedonia, 1917, Bulgarian and German soldiers have gathered. One of them is disguised as a priest; Nayden is a bridegroom, and Nikola - the bride. Dancing begins; the officers laugh. Suddenly the mocked "wedding" is interrupted - the enemy has launched an attack. Nikola -"the bride" - is wounded and taken to a field hospital. Nayden reads to him the newly arrived letter, which evokes memories... Nikola is on leave. He is acquainted with Lyuba. They are attracted to each other. He leaves, she promises to wait for him...
