The Sheik Ali Ben Abdul's child falls sick, and he is advised to send for the "doctor missionary." Clifford treats the child, leaving it much better. Meanwhile, a native is mauled by a lion, and again Clifford is sent for. It so happens that Paul, a brother missionary, is calling upon Clifford's sister, Alice. Clifford being absent, Paul consents to go with Alice and see the injured native and finds on his arrival that he can do no good. Clifford's baby has attempted to follow her aunt, and is followed by a chimpanzee, and Clifford's wife not seeing the child, follows, armed with a rifle. Mrs. Clifford is pursued by a lion and climbs into a tree until it passes, when she renews her search. Paul and Alice return and cannot find Mrs. Clifford and the baby, and go to find them. They are, in turn, attacked by a lion, and Paul wounds the brute. The chimpanzee leads baby Alice into a hollow tree as it sees the lion coming, and the distracted mother passes close by. The witch doctor of the natives persuades the chief that Paul killed the man, and the natives burn Clifford's house. Clifford finds his house in ruins, and starts out to hunt his beloved ones. He goes for the mounted police, but his horse shies at the chimpanzee, which has left the baby, and he rises with a hurt leg. Paul and Alice find the child, and the exhausted mother is discovered by her pet elephant, who lifts her to his back. Clifford staggers to a stream, and being faced by a lion, shoots it, and is helped from the water by an Arab, who has been sent to seek him to again attend the Sheik's sick child. He is helped to a horse, and on the way they fall in with Paul and Alice and the child. The elephant arrives with Mrs. Clifford. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
