A notice of a bargain sale is to Mrs. Newlywed an invitation to buy, and she seldom allows one to pass without getting something. One day she sees a notice of an extremely cut-rate bargain sale on stockings. She shows her husband the notice, stating that the guaranteed five dollar silk stockings will be sold for two dollars, and asking him for the money. Newlywed refuses her request. In spite of the fact that Mrs. Newlywed has several dozen pair of stockings, she insists on getting some at this bargain, and her husband leaves the house after the two have a fuss over the matter. Arriving at the office, a stenographer requests leave of absence to go on an errand, and shortly after she leaves, Newlywed sees the same ad that provoked the discussion between his wife and himself. He decides to surprise his wife by buying a pair of stockings and takes them home as a peace offering. Not to be denied, Mrs. Newlywed borrows the necessary funds from the maid and sets out for the bargain counter. The stenographer buys her stockings, and is so pleased with them that she puts them on before leaving the store. Ethel sees her husband at the bargain counter and is happy, believing that he is getting the stockings for her. To be on the safe side, however, she purchases a pair of the stockings and sets out for the office. Eddie has returned to the office, and is met by a customer, who desires to see some property. He leaves with the customer, and tells the clerk that should he not return before five, to close the office. He also leaves the package of stockings he has bought for his wife. Finishing her shopping, Ethel returns to her husband's office and finds him missing. She determines to wait until he returns, and while waiting, discovers that the stenographer has on a pair of the bargain hose. Suspicion against her husband is aroused, and she awaits his return with injured feelings. When five o'clock arrives and Eddie does not return, the office is closed. Ethel is forced to return home alone. Shortly after she leaves, the stenographer, while placing some letters on Eddie's desk, discovers the package of stockings, and written upon it is a little note stating it is for his wife. The stenographer, thinking he has forgotten the package, determines to take it home. When Eddie arrives home that night he runs into a tornado in the person of his wife with her injured feelings. In the midst of her raving, the stenographer comes in with the package, and Ethel, in her frenzy, tries to heat up the girl. She finally sees the note on the package, and her anger subsides. Explanations follow, and Eddie decides that never again will he try the bargain counter. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
