To explore new technology and show the viewers "what was to come later". In the autumn of 1996 NRK2 Spider had 100 megabit broadband, video telephone via internet (multicast backbone) and a lot of fancy technology. On the other hand, NRK2 Spider was not supposed to be a "learning program", rather a freak show with ideas from the fast pace television genre, which is why a lot of viewers got annoyed. Through the 16 first shows Norwegian Broadcasting nevertheless was able to show the viewers what direction internet was taking and, of course, a lot of the viewers also started to participate in the chatting, the "wheeling and dealing" with 3D graphic elements and the exchange of files with graphics and music.
