Mona is sceptical, and insists that Max shall shoot another bear. Regretting his imagination, Max obeys her bequest to sally forth. The climb up the mountain damages his silk hat and his temper, and when he encounters a hideous creature with long horns (Mona's father in disguise), he falls from the top to the bottom in sheer terror. The danger over, he ponders the situation thoughtfully, and enters a shop on his way back to the hotel. Here he buys a magnificent skin, which he proudly presents to Mona. But he forgets the ticket.
