While Dick tries to hide the fact, Mr. Martin, giving him a bed to sleep on for the night, knows that Dick is running away in having had a fight with his parents, this one only the latest in Dick being at the stage of his life in rebelling against parental authority. The specific issue this evening was Dick having broken curfew in not even realizing what time it was when he was out with friends. While, by the light of morning, Dick knows that running away was childish, the issues with his parents still exist. Mr. Martin however believes he has a way of convincing him to want to go home and try to eke out a better relationship with his parents by having him understand growing up from both sides and show them that he is responsible.
