Mrs. Taylor is suffering from exhaustion in the amount of housework she has to do in the other three not taking any responsibility either for any of the housework or for their own belongings within the house. Martha believes things she is learning in home economics class can help their family in making them more organized collectively and not having the entire burden of looking after the household chores on mother's shoulders alone. If they are able to accomplish what they set out to do, mother may no longer suffer from exhaustion, and they may all be proud to invite people into their home, which they cannot say they currently are.
