Also affected by the business failure is James Edgerton, who is in love with Diana. Employed by wealthy E. H. Rivett to stage a fashionable party, Diana encounters Colonel Carew, who harasses her with questions about a murder in Reno which has clouded her name. Driven from the party by his questioning, Diana is pursued by Carew to her apartment, followed by Mrs. Wemyss, a widow jealous of Carew's attentions to Diana. Diana's good name, her love, and her honor are at stake until Edgerton comes to her rescue, forcing a full revelation of the Reno affair and clearing the path for a union between Diana and her benefactor.
