For years, he has lived with a young maid, Torine, whose favor he obtained by promising her that upon his death she would be his sole heir. However, he refused to make a will, and Torine, sensing the inheritance slipping away, uses all her cunning to persuade the old man to leave his estate in her favor. He dies just as she is about to succeed; consumed by rage and despair, Torine is tempted by a diabolical scheme. But she needs an accomplice. She then calls upon her neighbor, Father Leleu; thus, a fierce and underhanded struggle ensues, ending unexpectedly with the triumph of the more deceitful of the two. Written by SVT See less
