One of his fellow club members, desiring to test the effectiveness of his statement, advertises for a coward to call at his home, and Garland, taking on the offer, bets he will prove himself to be a coward. At the house prepared for him, Garland meets Isabell, the old man's niece, and a gang headed by Purviance, an ex-actor: he is chased by a dog, climbs a tree, and scales the wall into the yard to avoid a sniper. Garland becomes a rival of Colonel Ortegas for the love of Isabell and wins a fight with Bull Harper, the chief henchman. The conspirators are arrested, and Garland and Isabell find happiness.
