She is arraigned before Judge Walker, whose son, Bruce, is in love with her; the judge levies a heavy fine and warns her that another offense will result in jail. During a subsequent raid on a roadhouse, Mary tries to escape arrest but wrecks her car in the attempt. She is tried, convicted of reckless driving, and sentenced to a year in jail. Judge Walker offers to put her on probation if anyone will accept responsibility for her conduct. None of her society friends is willing to risk having to serve her term if she breaks probation, but when Mary shows a genuine sense of contrition, the judge himself accepts the responsibility. He later gives his son permission to marry Mary and makes him personally accountable for her actions. Written by AFI See less
