One day she is down at the beach when by accident she falls into the water. Her mishap is seen by Howard Benson, a naval officer on leave, and he comes to her rescue. This gives rise to a romance between the two and they soon become engaged. But before the wedding Howard receives an order to report for service in foreign waters. This spoils all the plans for the wedding, and the couple are heartbroken when it is suggested that they be married on the way to 'Frisco. This is agreed and a minister is taken along on the boat and the ceremony performed there. Howard is away for over two years, and in this time many things happen. In foreign waters he meets Evelyn Winston, the daughter of a consul, and falls in love with her. And back in the States, Violet has met and fallen in love with an artist, Robert Ashton. But both are faithful, as each thinks that the other is true. At last Howard returns on leave. He looks forward with great sadness to the meeting with the wife whom he hardly knows and does not love. Violet has gone again to the resort and there sadly awaits her husband. Robert has meanwhile arrived at the cabin in the nearby woods to drown his sorrow in art. And Evelyn has come back to the States and has gone to the same resort with some friends. On the way down to the place Howard meats an old friend, a lawyer, who tells him that the marriage was not legal since the ceremony was not performed in the same state that the license was taken out in. But Howard does not want to disappoint the girl that he thinks has been pining for him for the past two years. When he arrives Violet does not greet him warmly, and he in turn is all broken up when he sees Evelyn at the hotel. At last Violet cannot stand it any longer, and having found out that Robert is in the vicinity, she decides to elope with him. But Howard finds her in his cabin, and when he accuses her of being false, she confesses that she does not love him at all. Then they both realize the great mistake that has been made, and there is a double wedding and both the couples are happy. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
