About the same time a young lieutenant of the corps arrives to assist Inspector Creighton in running down a notorious outlaw. McLloyd and Peggy while riding through the woods near the post one day, discover the dead body of Graham hidden under a pile of underbrush. McLloyd a few minutes before has fired at a bird near this same pile of brush which makes Peggy think that her father was killed by the policeman's bullet. McLoyd is thunderstruck when the girl accuses him of murder and knowing the direction in which he fired that his bullet could not possibly have caused the death of Graham, he starts on an investigation. The strange action of Inspector Creighton causes McLoyd to center his investigation in his direction, until finally after the death of his superior officer McLoyd clears up the mystery and rescues Peggy from almost certain death at the hands of a Hindoo secret society named "The Shinto" which was responsible for the death of Graham and Creighton.
