They accept the invitation, overjoyed at this simple means of breaking into the "five hundred" and carrying away an heiress. Forthwith Jake purchases a book on etiquette. Their social education thus completed they betake themselves to a Jew clothier and are fitted out. Arrived at Miss Goldollar's house the valet asks for their card. Mike gives the servant a playing card. Jake plays the trusty friend and prompts Mike from the book. They dance with the queens of society, step on their feet and tear their dresses. The climax of their misfortunes comes at dinner. Mike gurgles the soup, drinks wine from a vase and begins to play cards with the crackers. In the meantime Jake takes up a chrysanthemum and believing it to be a new fruit, salts it and eats it. The guests leave the table in disgust. Mike and Jake quarrel. The police arrive.
