The son of a surveyor and a teacher who never went to film school (though studied the work of many movies throughout his life), Gidlow began filmmaking in 2009 after creating a short 5-minute contest entry for YouTube's ProjectDirect the year prior. The seeds were planted then for what would become his first actor-led short film, "Victor James" (2011).

Gidlow created a few more short films in the months and years ahead, including "Uncivil" (2012). He took a break from the filmmaking world shortly thereafter, meeting his wife Samantha in 2014. He began working for World Tavern Entertainment, the US's leading bar promotions company, that same year and is still their Director of Marketing and Operations to this day.

Gidlow created Skyphire Entertainment in 2018, incorporated as an LLC in 2023, and started work on his first TV series project that would ultimately become "The Vigilant". The pandemic pushed the project back into redevelopment; it has since received investment and is being shopped for attachments as of November 2024.

Gidlow helms a deep slate of various projects in development, including series and feature films. The most influential films and shows for Gidlow's overall writing and directing approach are "Breaking Bad" (2008-2013), "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), "Contact" (1997), "Star Trek" (with an emphasis on the TNG/DS9 universe), the original "Law & Order" (1990-), "Supernatural" (2005-2020), and "The Fugitive" (1993).

Gidlow is an avid Carolina Hurricanes fan and enjoys the WWE, spending time with his wife and his human cat "Stormy", and is the older brother of Daniel Gidlow, famous for his work on his YouTube channel (Danz Newz Productions).
