Vassilis Kosmopoulos studied Film and Television directing in Athens and Munich (HFF), Theater (BA & MSc) at the University of Athens, Documentary co-production projects developing for international audiences. (Documentary Campus Masterschool 2006) and is a PhD candidate at the Department of Digital Arts and Cinema, University of Athens (NKUA).

Well-regarded filmmaker, working both in fiction and documentaries as director/screenwriter/producer while experimenting in various other forms (cinematic, multimedia installations, Digital Media, Immersive projects), has also worked as a researcher on Audiovisual Heritage & Digital Archive projects, on Culture & Education matters, as artistic/academic filmmaking educator and as policy strategist for the audiovisual sector.

Between 2017-2019 served firstly as Director of Production and Development and subsequently as Director-General of the Greek Film Centre. Among other responsibilities, he played significant part in the selective funding of film projects evaluation processes (national and international ones, both fiction and documentary). During his term, officially represented Greek Cinema in international level to important international Film community events (Cannes, Berlin, Venice etc. international film festivals) and was part of European Film policy-making organizations, as European Film Agency Directors association (EFADs).

While developing his own fiction and non-fiction projects, since 2024 supervises the strategic master-plan for the transformation of the Old Municipal Hospital of Patras to a "Digital Centre for Audiovisual Heritage and Innovation". The Centre aims to bring together the technological and scientific world that produces cutting-edge innovative and immersive narrative tools with the artistic community of audiovisual storytelling, as an international synergy pole for developing the - infinitely expanding- Storytelling of the Digital Era.
