REVIEWS FOR ‘HOW TO SUCCEED AS AN ETHNICALLY AMBIGUOUS ACTOR’

RADHIKA MENON OF BROWN GIRL MAGAZINE
The phenomenal one-woman show, “How to Succeed as an Ethnically Ambiguous Actor,” produced by the Hypokrit Theatre Company, starring Zenobia Shroff explores racial micro aggressions in showbiz and how closely success in the arts is tied to forfeiting parts of your identity when you fall in this category of “ethnically ambiguous.”
The paths taken and not taken, decisions made, and the fight for equality in her workplace all push Zenobia to succeed and then question her success- this show should be required watching for all of us “ethnically ambiguous” aspiring artists.”
With Zenobia playing every single one of these characters to perfection (yes, even the bratty child), the show weaves in and out of these dilemmas towards the shining light in the distance: success
    EVAN SEPLOW OF STAGEBUDDY
The play, written by Ms. Shroff and the shows’ director, Arpita Mukherjee, is smart, peppered with humor and filled with depth. It’s filled with meaningful exploration and loaded with charm. See it while it’s still running in the festival.
    SOPHIA ROMMA OF THEATER PIZZAZZ

Zenobia transforms from one character and settles like fine moss into portraying another, with exquisite finesse.
Zenobia commands the space quite admirably, engaging the audience with poignant humor and social commentary on inherent racial biases. She says that “acting is not about pretending to be someone, it is about becoming someone.” She demonstrates her agility in becoming a male chauvinistic street vendor, a perverted office manager, an Italian boyfriend with a wild fantasy but with limited imagination and compassion
    KRISTIN HARDWICK OF HI! DRAMA
And HOW TO SUCCEED AS AN ETHNICALLY AMBIGUOUS ACTOR changed my perception of an actor's perseverance "trying to make it as an actor in NYC" thanks to Co-Writer and solo performer Zenobia Shroff
Through a series of lessons, the talented Ms. Shroff depicts the various people in her life who have affected her struggle to make it here. Her excellent impressions* of said people makes you think these characters are actually on stage with her. Her descriptions of her struggles are humorously conveyed and are peppered with moments of poignancy which gives her audience a roller coaster of emotions, in a wonderful way
Also her stories of trying to explain her ethnicity at numerous auditions are most endearing
NOTE: (*The program states that there are 30 characters featured in this show which I believe is the correct number; as I was so entertained I didn’t count them, etc)

    REVIEWS FOR THE BIG SICK
Both are hiding things from the other: Kumail’s traditional family (Adeel Akhtar, Anupam Kher, and the fantastic Zenobia Shroff) wants him to marry a Pakistani girl (and constantly invite girls over for dinner for him to meet, each with their own glamor shot ready), and Emily is fresh off her first marriage VANYALAND.COM
But Kumail can’t tell his fiercely attentive suburban parents (Anupam Kher and Zenobia Shroff, both excellent) about the white girl he’s seeing. Instead, he stashes their photos of arranged-marriage candidates in a cigar box and rides out a courtship that he secretly thinks is doomed to fail. TIMEOUT.COM

While Nanjiani makes the most of his turn in the spotlight, the movie works so well because every actor in the core quartet is allowed room to shine. The spirit of generosity and inclusiveness runs throughout terrific turns from Bo Burnham, Aidy Bryant, and Kurt Braunohler as Kumail’s standup pals, Shroff, Anupam Kher, Adeel Akhtar, and Shenaz Treasurywala as Kumail’s family, and Vella Lovell as one of Kumail’s mother’s chosen women who delivers a devastating takedown of his childish behavior.YAHOO.COM
