She attended London's Central School of Speech and Drama before having success in television, playing the depressed and emotionally-unfit mother in The Brittas Empire (1991), and Fleur in Absolutely Fabulous (1992); the character first seen in Season One with her friends and coworkers Magda (Kathy Burke) and Catriona (Helen Lederer).
