David Schroeder is from New Orleans. What began as a Geology major at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, became one of Speech with an emphasis in Theatre, and led to numerous roles, onstage. During the summers of 1958 to 1961, he joined stock companies in Michigan City, Indiana and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After graduating from L.S.U. in 1961, David spent two years in the "real" world as a Child Welfare Visitor followed by service as a deckhand in the Merchant Marine, before joining a summer stock company in Laconia, New Hampshire. From there, in 1963, he went to New York City, where, for eight years, he earned a living as a stage manager, set and lighting designer, and, on tour, as Advance Director for the Erick Hawkins Dance Company. During that period, he spent a season of summer stock in Traverse City, Michigan.

In 1971, David decided to apply the experience he gained in New York to that of being the Production Stage Manager at the Country Dinner Playhouse in Dallas, Texas. Two years and twenty productions later, he moved to Mexico City, where he joined an English-speaking theatre company, and was cast in Mexican films and commercials as well as films and commercials from the United States that were on location, there.

In 1976, David came to Hollywood. Although he has accepted his Screen Actors Guild pension for more than twenty years of employment under Guild jurisdiction, David does not consider himself to be retired. In addition to SAG-AFTRA he is governed by the contract of AEA, and is a full member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In other words, he looks forward to a future that will continue to present fresh opportunities to practice his craft.
