After attending an AA meeting Wendy confronts Judy and accuses her of being a cold, uncaring parent but Judy counters by accusing her daughter of being 'hard to love' and the cause of her marital break-up. At her thirty-fifth birthday party Wendy again hits the bottle and tries to seduce Glen, which leads to a fight breaking out. She seeks consolation from Steven, telling him that she has never had a lasting relationship in her life due to her insecurity but Steven is sympathetic, encouraging her to be independent of her mother and live her own life with some pride.
