Born in 1899, the illiterate Sicilian Vincenzo Rabito recounts the 20th century through thousands of thick typewritten pages collected in notebooks tied with string. From extreme poverty to the economic boom, it is a century of wars and misfortunes, but also of redemption and work. The unprecedented point of view is that of a last man who, writing his own autobiography, rereads the history of Italy in a passionate and overwhelming narrative that excites and moves, forcing one to come to terms with contradictory and uncomfortable truths.
