He orders daughter to her room, the sweetheart and ...See moreThe first scene shows a gouty parent refusing the consent of his daughter to attend a masquerade ball, because her sweetheart was so unfortunate as to strike against a gouty foot. He orders daughter to her room, the sweetheart and companions out of the house; also orders the butler to lock the garden gate to prevent any one getting in or out. The butler shows the young people from the room, down to the gate, locking gate after them, but love laughs at locksmiths. A ladder is secured and placed against the garden wall. The daughter escapes. Outside the garden wall sweetheart and friends rush her away to the ball. When the news reaches the father he decides to go to the ball and bring his daughter back, he starts, and between the time of his starting and return many strange and wonderful things happen: ending fortunately in mutual happiness, because of the successful outcome of a trial of "A Cure for Gout."
