In another apartment, Mr. Drozd, a professor emeritus of natural history, teaches his wife how to iron trousers properly, which his wife has to correct. Next door, the young couple Stikas are expecting the arrival of their offspring, and Slávek, a doctor of philosophy, is doing the laundry. His cord is missing. But even when he manages to hammer a little bolt into the wall to pull the clothesline, water starts to leak from somewhere.
