The massive and complicated machinery seems to act as though it were itself alive and endowed with intelligence. An electrically-operated bridge conveyor, 420 feet long, weighing 600 tons; a dipper-dredge feeding hydraulic disposal boat, cantilever cranes; a movable dam of bridge type (the first of its kind in America); concrete locks in operation, etc., are all shown and each adds its peculiar interest. Huge buckets raise tons of rock and dirt, opening and closing their tremendous jaws, enormous cranes swing, raise and lower, and a chain of curious conveyors on a belt slowly eats its way into the shore.
