Max Lindemann, who has come to like the young man, shows more understanding than expected. Jens Hartmann, now totally obsessed with the gold in the sunken shipwreck, needs money to rent a boat with specialized equipment to lift the treasure. He doesn't stop at blackmail and threatens his lover Renate and her husband with exposure if they don't lend him the 50,000 marks he needs. Kuhn panics and, in the company of his Spanish girlfriend, leaves the country for South America. Renate eventually gives in to her lover's demands and lets him have her share of the life insurance she got in the insurance scam. See less
