His uncle dies and leaves him a stack of long green. To prove that he is a "regular fellow" Jack goes back to the boarding house where he struggled along as a clerk. Here he meets Ann, the "slavey" of the outfit, and is first drawn to her by the manner in which she passes the hash at the dining table. Jack observes that though a serving maid there is something entirely different about Ann. Before he knows it, he has fallen in love with her. He determines to propose, then comes upon Ann with a group of society women about her, congratulating her. It develops that Ann, the daughter of the social leader of the city, has worked as a serving maid simply to study economic conditions. In so doing, however, she has fallen in love with Jack, and the two clinch their boarding house experience by getting married. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
