The patients are not so exclusive. Phil is a "guest" suffering from nothing on the brain-his ailment is baldness and he tries to disguise his lack of hair by putting dye on his head. But he gets some hot towels in his hat and when the dye melts the other guests think the tar is running out of the seams in his skull. The head surgeon is so absent-minded that he once operated on a patient six times to find his umbrella. He gets a fit of absent-mindedness and takes temperatures with a cigar while smoking a thermometer. George is another guest. He is suffering from wheels in his head. He is trying to find the Atlantic Ocean. It changes into Niagara Falls, much to the discomfort of Clem, a guest who is suffering from splinters caused by wood alcohol. Clem gets into the operating room and by performing a wonderful bit of surgery amputates a cat from a patient. Then a big seal gets loose in the sanitarium and everyone is scared into a fit of gelatin shivers. It affects the colored janitor and he hides in a closet where he meets a skeleton face to face. Then he hides on the operating table only to risk getting his head divorced from his body by the absent minded surgeon. The seal waddles through the hospital spreading consternation among the patients, and Clem thinks he is seeing pink sea elephants. The excitement is intense and in the general uproar, nobody has any fun except the seal. He hasn't had such a good time since he taught a school of herring and ate the pupils for being tardy.
