However, he becomes a victim of strong drink and loses his position. He affiliates with Bill Avery, a crook, who persuades him to break into Barker's office to crack the safe. In the meantime Barker has closed the vault after finishing work, believing that Simpson, the cashier, has gone home. In reality Simpson is in the vault and is left to suffocate. Blaisdell and Bill enter the office and hear Simpson inside the vault. The crook fears that a concussion incident to blowing the safe might kill the man within and flees. Inside, Simpson signals the word "help" by pencil tapping. Blaisdell recognizes the telegrapher's code, and taps on his side of the vault, "Signal the combination." Blaisdell opens the vault as the combination is signaled to him in time to save the cashier's life. Simpson then surprises Blaisdell by extending his hand and saying: "I am going to invest in a human soul. Go to another city and start clean." Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
