Neteb is an amateur detective, typically investigating domestic conspiracies against Ramesses. She also helps in cases involving foreign enemies, such as rogue Hittite princes. Neteb is also a student of medicine, and her medical training often saves the lives of crime victims. The series also features her sidekick, a soldier-in-training who is in love with her.
