An insurance agent induces him to take out a policy of which the cook is the beneficiary. When Mr. Gull takes the policy to his culinary love he finds Nichols, the cop, in the kitchen. Believing the cook false to him, Gull hastens away to commit suicide, but everything he tries fails. Finally he hires two amateur assassins to kill him. Then a gang of bomb-tossers work their way out of jail and into the plot. They are intent on blowing Nichols, the cop, into an early grave, but Gull, who has disguised himself as a policeman, attracts their attention and they decide to try the bomb on him. Pursued by the bomb throwers, the hired assassins, the cook and the policeman, Gull flees over the skyline of Los Angeles. He climbs to the dizzy heights of the electric signs that surmount the skyscraper and courts with death in every way that comes to him. Finally he is run to earth by the cook and the cop the cook accepts him for better or worse, and he celebrates by falling off the roof of a fourteen-story building.
