Producer Confirms Voltron is in Development

The last time we heard about a big screen "Voltron" film was a year ago when Relativity Media announced that it acquired rights to the property and hired Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara) to write the script. Now, during the San Diego Comic-Con, producer Robert Kopla gave an update, confirming that the film is still on track. "It's currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas," he said. "It's going to be a big action adventure flick and we're really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it." In "Voltron," five young warriors are responsible for the future of the galaxy when they become pilots of ultra-high-tech Robot Lions, powerful vessels with the ability to join together to form a fearsome mega-weapon known as "Voltron." Voltron Movie is Still in Development!

It's been awhile since we've had a status update on the big screen adaptation of Voltron. But today we've learned from World Event Productions vice president Robert Kopla that it's still is in active development!

It’s currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas. It’s going to be a big action adventure flick and we’re really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it.

Relativity Media officially announced the film last year at Comic-Con, so a year later it's nice to hear that things are still moving forward. Like many of you, I grew up on the original series, and a live action film has the potential to be extremely epic! Announced last year at Sdcc 2011, details on the live-action Voltron movie have been virtually nonexistent but this year's Con supplied a brief update from World Event Productions' Creative Director Jeremy Corray and vice president Robert Kopla . Question: What’s the latest word on the Voltron feature film that you introduced at last year’s Comic-Con? Kopla: It’s currently in development with Relativity Media.
