A flash-back shows how the lack of pep has affected his spirits. While under ether he dreams that he has become an ape and is forced to swing upon the chandeliers and walk up the sides of the buildings. He wakes up just before the operation is performed and takes the chance to beat it out of the hospital. The horror of the dream gives him more pep than monkey glands.
