He takes it as a joke, but signs. She then looks for work, but finds that all the chances are for men. Finally, entirely discouraged and almost in tears, she dons men's attire. She deceives even her father as to her gender and obtains work in his office, where she falls for his general manager, Billy. She reads a telegram giving a "sure thing" market tip and gets Billy to invest her money. She wins. She goes into the private office to put the money in her stocking and is surprised by a mouse. She screams and throws her wig at the mouse. Billy enters, and is surprised--and happy--to find that she is a girl; he had been unable to account for "his" peculiar attractiveness.
