What was needed to not only land the invading forces, but also to try and help them fight their way off the beaches into the French countryside, taxed the inventiveness of man. From tanks laying their own tracks to gliders and pre-invasion reconnaissance to check the firmness of the beaches, it was all thought of and used to the maximum in making D-Day a success.
