The old man brings the hay rake and horse into the stable about ...See moreSilas, son of old Farmer Simpkins, is very tired of farming, and, while his father and the hired man are out in the fields working, he is soundly sleeping by the stable door. The old man brings the hay rake and horse into the stable about dinner time, and inquires of the hired man where Silas is. The man shows him his son fast asleep, he calls Si, who wakes and goes to his father. The father sends him to the pump to draw a bucket of water. While at the pump he decides to go to the city and on his return to where the old man is, he states the fact to him. The father tries to dissuade him, but the boy is persistent, so the father decides to allow him to go. We next see him leaving the old home and all the farm hands bidding him good-bye. It is haying season and the farmer, who is busy at his daily toil, wonders what has become of his boy. We are very soon enlightened, for while the father makes hay the son shines.
