The boy, Anacapo Morongo, attends the small reservation school, and a tourist lady and gentleman, childless and lonely in their middle age, are attracted to him by his brightness and vivacity. They apply to his teacher to help them gain his father's consent to his adoption, and old Cohuillo is finally made to realize the vast advantage to his boy, and sadly gives him up. Little Anacapo is taken to St. Louis and entered in a school. He tries his best, and is brave and good-natured, but as winter comes one, the child, unused to snow and the rigors of a northern climate, falls ill and writes his father a brave, pathetic little letter. Cohuillo, on receipt of the letter, hurries to his boy, taking advantage of the old time Indian privilege of riding free on freight trains. He is confused in the whirl of the great city's streets, but through the kindness of a good-natured policeman, reaches the house in time to have his boy dies in his arms.
