Finally she buys a new hat, dress, shoes, etc., and when he sees the bill he is greatly concerned. He discusses a course to pursue with Mrs. Porter. Irene in the meantime has met John Shields a bachelor and when she invites him to her home Porter gets an idea. He plans to make things so pleasant for Shields that he will marry Irene. His strategy works and Irene and Shields become engaged. Irene plans an elaborate wedding the estimated cost of which scares Porter. He resorts to strategy again and tells Irene that she cannot marry Shields for three years in the hope that the young people will elope. The plan works again for that same night Shields and Irene elope much to the relief of Porter. Written by
