At the asylum they see many children, but one little fourteen-year-old, Ella, wins an immediate way to their hearts, A few days after her adoption, a thief decides to raid the house. Leaving his pals, a woman and a dope fiend, to watch outside, he enters the house. The child in her room above, hears a sound and creeps down. She finds no one and goes back to her room again. But the thief has seen her; she is his daughter. When his wife died, leaving him alone with the girl, he could not care for her and put her in the asylum. The father's heart is torn but he realizes that she will be happier in the new home. And out of the darkness there comes to him a determination to be a better man.
