Although Blackburn is ready to quit the military, he decides to apply his energy to missionary work within the organization. Over the next decades, the church's original eight missionaries, including Rev. John Chavis, Samuel Worest, Dr. Marcus Whitman, Sheldon Jackson, Amanda MacFarland and Rev. Frank Higgins, are sent to various parts of America to spread the word of the Presbyterian church.
