At the suggestion of Henry McBride, an old crony, he tells Jim he has lost his fortune. Confronted with this news, Jim declares his intention of getting a job to support his "poor old father." However, Jim finds it difficult to find work. He knocks out a tough who has insulted a girl, Mary Corbett. Mary reveals that he has just whipped Battling Wilson, the state champion, and offers to train Jim for a professional match with Wilson. Jim accepts but is drugged on the night of the fight, and he loses the match. Afterwards, in the dressing room, he beats Wilson up with his bare fists, becomes reconciled with his father, and introduces Mary as his future bride. See less
