Runsford (Maurice Costello) visits the area on a hunting trip. John D'Arclay (Van Dyke Brooke) also comes to the area, meets and falls in love with Irene, marries her and has an operation preformed which restores her sight. But he comes to believe that she loves Runsford and he leaves her. He comes across the body of a man who has committed suicide, and exchanges clothes with the dead man and leaves his papers on him.
