He loved to sit in the shade of a tree and read the poems of Dante, Gabriel, Rossetti, to his daughter. Eve, the daughter, privately considered Dante, Gabriel, Rossetti something of a bore, but she did not tell her father so, for fear of hurting his aesthetic feelings. In accordance with his advanced ideas, the poet had taken pains to keep his daughter in entire seclusion from the rest of the world. She had never seen any other man but her father. In addition to his wild poetic yearnings, the poet maintained throughout a strain of shrewd native common sense. He rode to town one morning and interviewed Amos Munroe, the real estate agent. The poet owned a tract of woodland in close proximity to his house, which he desired Amos to undertake to sell. There were, however, certain peculiar conditions attached to this transaction. Amos was to see that the buyer of the property was a young man, an attractive young man, if possible, and Amos was to make sure that the aforesaid attractive young man was rich. Adam Milford, wealthy young broker, saw the real estate advertisement in the paper, and, since he wanted a desirable location for a summer camp, inspected the property, and bought it. He erected a comfortable cabin in which he decided to spend the remaining part of the summer. One day while he was wandering through the woods, he met Eve. It is not exactly common for a girl to meet a man and marry him the same week, but that is just what Adam and Eve did, showing that there is something in a name after all.
